Damaged F111 Jet After Hitting Pelican Bird – Pictures

A damaged F111 Fighter Jet after a collision with a pelican

A mid air collision over a residential neighborhood between an F-111 fighter jet and a pelican bird has apparently caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages to the aircraft. The Pelican bounced off the nose section of the jet and was sucked into an engine’s intake vent. The crash occurred near Evans Head, northern NSW, Australia.

How on earth did the two RAAF flight lieutenants manage to bring the bird damaged jet to a safe landing after such a catastrophic 3000 ft mid-air collision? Amazing!

The pilots are being hailed as heroes for flying the jet safely back to solid ground without further incident. Take a look at the images and I think you’ll agree it wasn’t an easy task.
