The eBay Reseller Marketplace Affiliate Program - Guide

01-29-2008

I received a pleasant email from eBay today, it starts off like this…

Dear Jean Harris,

Welcome to the eBay Reseller Marketplace affiliate program! You are among the select affiliate applicants who have been approved to represent the Reseller Marketplace by eBay. As a member, you now have access to a generous compensation plan delivering $75 per sale for every qualified subscription signup you refer.

Since 2005 eBay has run a Reseller Marketplace that allows merchants with excess inventory to offer it to eBay powerseller account holders so that powersellers could liquidate the inventory. The fee to join the Reseller Marketplace as a merchant with excess inventory is 79.00 per month and the benefits are impresive. A business owner saddled with too much product in stock they cannot move quickly is in some cases losing money hourly. The eBay Reseller Marketplace has helped those business owners, as well as the powersellers, by bringing the two together.

I’ve been a CJ affiliate for some time now, I use it with one of my non blog sites, and have been at 4 out of 5 green bars or better on the CJ performance list for a long time. eBay has been one of my top performing affiliates on those sites and I haven’t missed reaching the incentive bonuses in a long time. I’m all too happy to have been invited to the Reseller Marketplace Affiliate program as well. The rest of the email is a well written beginners guide to making the most of being an eBay Marketplace affiliate, as well as the message eBay wants to purvey. Here is the guide I received.

Sale Qualification:
Referred merchants will be approved by the Reseller Marketplace team to place listings based upon business reputation and the quantity of inventory. Bidding on trademarks relating to eBay Reseller Marketplace in Search is prohibited (examples: eBay Reseller Marketplace, eBay Reseller, eBay).

Targeting:
The key to promoting eBay Reseller Marketplace successfully is getting the “Sell Your Excess Inventory” message in front of the merchants who will benefit most. The best click to sale conversion rate is obtained by reaching out to merchants you currently work with directly or by reading content relating to business, finance, advertising, manufacturing, and order fulfillment or by searching for ways to sell their excess inventory.

Value Proposition:
After setup, an eBay Reseller Marketplace account starts at only $79 per month - there is no more affordable way for merchants to reach a qualified group of resellers. Merchants who liquidate excess inventory through eBay leverage the reach of the world’s largest eCommerce company.

Here are the main value propositions:
Sell to pre-qualified buyers - Sell excess inventory to pre-approved eBay PowerSellers ready to resell your products on eBay.com and other channels

Improve recovery rate - Get better pricing for your excess inventory by offering it to eBay PowerSellers looking for products to resell.

Move excess inventory quickly - Sell inventory in lot sizes on a regular basis to thousands of potential buyers.

Reduce costs - Reduce overhead and eliminate time-consuming process of soliciting and negotiating every order.

Good stuff eBay - the creatives don’t look all bad either.

Don’t let old inventory gather dust. Let eBay Reseller Marketplace do the work for you – start selling now! [aff]

The eBay Reseller Marketplace is an interesting proposition. I like the idea of bringing the two parties together like this.

They’ve been together since 2005 but the affiliate program to promote the marketplace hasn’t been. It’s a tough sell, the catch is that not everyone can apply and acceptance isn’t automatic. How many merchants with excess inventory do you know?
