You Have Been Google Balled!
Internet denizens and tech geeks have been rejoicing in the fact that Google and Twitter are helping to propegate a new internet based game that helps alleviate frustrations caused by the effects of being rick rolled. The new game is called Google Ballin’ and is officiated by Google, currently Twitter is leading the surge in the growing number of Google Ballers due to the ease in which Twitter instantly reaches a wide audience. Other social networks aren’t far behind.
How do you play Google Ballin? The beauty of Google Ballin is perhaps in it’s simplicity. Bloggers familiar with what is commonly called a meme adapt to Google Ballin especially well. The name of the game came about because the crystal ball is no longer useful given that Google has all the answers to all of a players questions, hence the name Google Ballin. These are the basics…
Step #1 - Find a question that Google thinks deserves a funny answer such as…
Why can I breathe underwater but my friends can’t? Humor is a requirement!

or Why do geeks like computers? Of course, girls are involved!

or Can you show me the money please? Web designers will appreciate this…

Step#2 - Setting up the Google Ball on someone unsuspecting.
When a Google Ballin’ question has been added to a blog page a simple twitter message acts as the lure. If the lure is successful and the friend clicks through they will see the dreaded “You have been google balled” challenge. They then have the opportunity to either come up with a funny response generating question of their own or to ignore your challenge, leaving you the winner. ONLY the first page of Google results are allowed and if the challenge is accepted, visitors get to comment on which they liked best.
- The Twitter Setup for twitter users.

- The Blog Setup for non twitter users.
Post the question on a blog page of your choice and send a trackback to notify the other site of the challenge. It’s that easy.
Step#3 - Visitors chose which Google Ball they liked most via comments. In the event of a tie prefference is given to results closer to the #1 position on Google, the tie-breaker goes to the Google Ball results with more than one funny result.
Some Google ballers are taking Google Ballin’ seriously and setting up a dedicated page with a huge “You have been google balled” logo and they’re keeping track of scores in public so be on your toes. Additionaly Yahoo! and MSN have been spotted participating however there has been no official word on a Yahoo! or MSN version of the game… yet.

this is the first time i have ever heard of this. Very interesting. Might have to try it.
This is new to me too. Still not sure how it works though. What are non twitter users supposed to do again?
The only reason this is funny is because it is so dumb. How much of a nerd do you have to be to think this is funny? Really. I’m asking this question.
It’s meant to be dumb, the funny is in googles own serps.
I guess that means it’s accomplished what it was designed to be :p
I’ve found a few i’d love to send but they’re not family friendly…
Who many people do you think our doing this. Are you Googleballin?
I’m not totally sure I still understand the steps. I’m on Twitter and I have a blog. I could easily come up with a question. Do I link my question to the Google Search results, to this page, to my blog, or what else on Twitter? Where do you go to view the scores?
Maybe I’m not geeky enough for this meme.
