About Popular Wealth

Sir Francis Bacon – “Knowledge is power“.
Albert Einstein – “Imagination is more important than knowledge“.
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe – “Thinking is more interesting than knowing, but less interesting than looking“.
Popular Wealth – “Harnessing the powers of knowledge, imagination, motivation and observation in sufficient amounts and in balanced proportions creates an unstoppable force“.

Popular Wealth is not about money, money is not wealth. Knowledge, Imagination, Observation and Motivation are true measures of wealth as are friendships and experiences. Though we launched the site into the bottomless pit known as the “make money online” category of the internet his goal and reasoning for doing so is much more devious than it may appear.

Our intent with Popular Wealth is to share enough of his experiences to pass on a measure of knowledge, to discuss different aspects of widely held beliefs in hopes of creating heightened Imagination, to create motivation by showing that anything is possible and to use the powers of internet to persuade visitors that solid webmaster practices and an open mind are much more powerful at making money online that even the most effective black hat tactics.

We are drawing on more than a decade of non blog site related internet experience to reach one end alone – to help YOU make money online by improving YOU as both a person and webmaster. We will attempt to take on the role of “good” vs the “evil” of many sites in the make money online sector. Time will be the ultimate judge on the matter.

With those devious plans out of the way Popular Wealth highlights actual case studies and inteligent in depth reviews of currently popular topics as well as keeping things light. It’s easy to say “just do what I do” in this category, it’s much harder to say “here is why”. We enjoy learning about the why and plans on sharing his findings in every article. Hopefully, even if in some small way, you’ll leave the site a better person every time you visit.

The Trophy Case

People instinctively look for signs of authority before embracing what they read online thus we are testing this “trophy case” idea by listing site accomplishments here on the bio page. A successful site achieves many smaller milestones before accomplishing the major ones, this trophy case allows you to measure your own success against the success of this site, hows that for transparency?

UPDATE 03/08: Article has top spot for “soccer pictures 2008″ and other word combinations in Google. The site isn’t only about soccer so I intend to micro manage internal pagerank to more important places but I’ll accept the temporary traffic surge :p It’s a searched for term with 7 million competitors.

6 Month Update – and what a crazy 6 months it’s been!
Popular Wealth has been my first real “blog” unlike the mostly content based sites I have prefered since 1998 but it has also been my testing grounds for various ideas. If you want to play on the net, you’d best figure it out right? SEO (2.0), social media and that ever elusive “je ne sais quois” were my main focus to date, combined with seeing if a site can withstand heavy advertising from the get-go (it can). So lets see where Popular Wealth stands at 6 months…

  • A half million unique pageviews in the past 60 days
  • 68,245 on Alexa (out of a bazillion sites)
  • Several hundred RSS subscribers
  • Page one results for a wide range of keywords
  • Top 25k on Technorati

Blah blah blah, theres more but as I write this it feels like looking in the mirror when I should be looking foreward. This 6 month update will be the last update on this page but the tests won’t end… for now. I proclaim this trial under fire blog study a success.

The difference between a million dollar website and an obscure website has been in the execution, moving forward I believe it will shift decisevly towards improved content. You can only package something in so many flavors before everyone says Blah. My focus on content is thus reaffirmed, looking in the mirror is for chumps, function trumps looks, hoorah!
