New Purple 5 Dollar Bill and Trends to Spend It On

02-24-2008

Purple Five Dollar Bill
The US Bureau of Engraving and Printing is launching it’s newest secure, and very purple, 5 dollar bill this month. It features Abraham Lincoln on the front and the Abraham Lincoln memorial on the back but what might stand out most on this five dollar bill is the very purple number five on the back. Canadians are used to purple, and other colors, so perhaps the US is keeping pace.

If you’re a webmaster perhaps a more important question to ask yourself is “what can I invest my purple goodness on?”. I’d like to take this purple chance to remind you to keep an eye out for trends, or you risk turning purple with frustration by saying “I thought of that!”.

Lets take a quick look at trends. Hmmm, the front page of EVERY magazine shows someone thin and attractive, check. Everyone eats, check. The basic foods are covered and marketing geniuses continually come up with new fads or marketable products, check. Ok, with those basics in hand it’s time to dig a little, here’s what I come up with. If you think of other possibilities earn your spot in the top commentators by sharing it in a comment will ya?

Datamonitors Product Scan shows that in 2003 only seven “under 100 calories” products were introduced. In 2004 the number jumped to tewnty-seven. In ‘05 thru ‘07 the numbers jumped to thirty-four, sixty-four and eighty-two respectively. Since the number of calories a snack product has is becoming a sales factor and the numbers of such products is increasing exponentially a website covering this product class may perform well in health communities.

A quick check with my registrar shows that SOME domain names catering to “Under 100 Calories” have been claimed, though they remain un-used, there are still several available such as “100calsnacks.com” or “OneHundredCalories.com” etc. If you’re looking for a niche website in a growing market, those would be some choice website domain names, of course you’d need to claim the 90 callorie version, and the 80 etc.

Back to our new purple friend, I like the new five dollar bill and the number five stands out but Brandon from Baton Rouge thinks it’s pretty crazy looking. What do you think ?

That’s hilarious. We used to only have green money, while most other countries go with colors. So now all of a sudden we’re going color too? I wonder why they chose purple first, and why the $5 bill. I wonder if that’s a statement about Lincoln….
