Tenerife is spelled Teneriffe in English and is the biggest of the Spanish Canary Islands located off the African coast. Tenerife was created roughly 3.5 million years ago by volcanic eruptions and is home to the highest point in Spain. Szeke’s holiday travels took him to Tenerife recently and he remembered to bring his EOS 30D digital camera, take a look at the great photos of Tenerife!
1. Tenerife - The Canary Islands

A great view of the hotels in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife. The white and blue hotel in the center of this photo is called Catalonia Las Vegas.
2. Tenerife - Los Gigantes

Los Gigantes is a resort town in Santiago del Teide which is on the west coast of the Canary Island of Tenerife, it’s famous for these mountains, The Giants.
3. The Road To Los Gigantes

The view from the road to Los Gigantes is equally as breathtaking.
4. Cafes and Restaurants in Puerto de la Cruz

The Restaurants and Cafes in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, are open late and its fun to watch people walk by from the outdoor patios.
5. Pico del Teide - Parque Nacional del Teide

A great photo of Parque Nacional del Teide (Teide National Park) with Pico del Teide (Mount Teide) in the background. UNESCO declared this area a world heritage site and Pico del Teide is the highest mountain in all of spain. At 3,718 meters above sea level its also the highest point in the Atlantic ocean.
6. Pico del Teide, Tenerife

A closer look at Pico del Teide, the ancient volcanic mountain in Tenerife.
7. San Cristobal de La Laguna

An interesting tree in the small town of San Cristobal de La Laguna, Tenerife.
8. A street in San Cristóbal de La Laguna

Buildings in San Cristóbal are kept in good repair and offer a pleasant walking experience. Located on the northern portion of Tenerife island the city is home to the University of La Laguna and 30,000 students. Population 134,314 (2004).
9. Puerto de la Cruz coastline, Tenerife

Also located in the northern part of Tenerife is Puerto de la Cruz and this is the coastline as is visible from the road that runs along it.
10. Northern Tenerife Coastline

Same location looking back towards Puerto de La Cruz at sunset time.
11. A Sunset on Tenerife

A beautiful sunset on Tenerife Island near Pico del Teide.
12. Masca, Tenerife

Masca, Buena Vista del Norte, is home to roughly 150 inhabitants and is located in the north-western corner of Tenerife and is sometimes refered to as the secret village. Interesting fact: Masca is the only village on Tenerife that was never attacked by pirates and up until 1960 it was only accessible by path. Farmers in the area cultivate potatoes and wheat.
13. A House in the secret village of Masca, Tenarife

Many of the local inhabitants have left for Spain or other nearby islands so some homes remain abandoned but locals do their best to keep the area liveable.
If Tenerife Holidays was just added to your list of things to do know that Szeke highly recommends the island and describes his stay at the hotel as affordable, clean and with excellent service. I’m still in awe of the photos he brought home and do plan on visiting the island myself if the chance arises. What do you think, travel food for thought?
