Does My Blog Need A New Logo ?

Well, does it? When I post an article and check it to make sure everything looks right the logo is part of that page. If the logo doesn’t look right how can anything else? Right?

I’ve been putting off getting a logo designed as long as possible but I’ve reached a point where I’m either going to spend a little for a pro to design me something cool or it’s never going to happen because the existing plain text banner becomes too comfortable. I’ve even shopped around and found a company called LogoBang that I want to try, they handle all sorts of Custom Logo Design requests. Here are some of their samples, don’t ALL of these look better than my current logo?

I’ve made the decision to stick with the large, wide text only banner that shares colors with the sides of the page for personal reasons but, to answer my own questions, a custom logo is extremely important in today’s blog battlefield. And yes, it is a battlefield, read my post about Blog Warfare if you don’t believe me.

Your logo is your brand, it’s your Blogs face, the first impression it makes. A cheezy logo can be as devastating as a Google Ban if you portray it as not cheezy (hey, cheezy works if that was the goal and everyone knows it). People remember people with nick-names, they remember three word phrases by their initials and they’ll remember your blog by it’s logo long before they remember what it was called.

Take the plunge, brand your blog with a logo, don’t ever change the logo and make sure you paste it to every place you can find within reason INCLUDING your websites favicon. Be proud of it, draw attention to it on occasion and promote it when you can. Take a look at your blog, is the logo as memorable as say Google or Yahoo logos? Why not ??

Psst – you can’t brand what has no logo!! and that’s my tip of the day.
