Wordpress version 2.5 pages 404 error bugfix
This is to inform of a bugfix for Wordpress blog owners that have upgraded to version 2.5 and discovered that their pages (aka – privacy policy pages, bio pages etc) display a 404 Error, page not found. DLO has come up with a solution to the pages 404 error bug, you can download it here – Wordpress Trac.

The pages not working and giving a ‘page not found 404 error’ problem doesn’t affect all blogs, it affects blogs that don’t have access to their .htaccess files and use a workaround in most cases. The most widely used workaround for blogs that want pretty uri’s but don’t have .htaccess file access is to add “/index.php/” to their permalink structures. Example, /index.php/%postname% is what I use here on Popular Wealth. It’s not a perfect solution but it beats using a URI with something like ?342332424 in the middle.

DLO’s solution was to modify the Wordpress rewrite.php by adding some additional checks. The bug proved frustrating to a lot of bloggers as you can see in this thread. The pages appear fine inside the wordpress dashboard but don’t show up in a browser. Before you play around with too many settings, take a look at DLO’s resolution and read the thread for yourself. With wordpress version 2.51 around the corner the fix will make it’s way into the next upgrade.
