Baker, California – The World’s Tallest Thermometer” is located in the town that calls itself The Gateway to Death Valley and the thermometer regularly records temperatures well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.
Interesting Fact: Towering at a whopping 134 feet the height of the world’s tallest thermometer was chosen to match the highest temperature ever recorded in the United States – 134 degrees faranheit in Death Valley way back in 1913.
The thermometer was ordered by a Baker businessman in 1991 and built by the Young Electric Sign Company of Salt Lake City, Utah.
The thermometer sits next to a Bun Boy restaurant and Mojave National Preserve visitors center.
